Steve Aoki – Pillowface And His Airplane Chronicles
It is difficult to deny how instrumental Steve Aoki has been in helping define
the emerging music and nightlife culture in the US today. From his humble
beginnings throwing shows in the living room of his UCSB apartment, Aoki has
gone on to start the influential indie label Dim Mak as well as the now
legendary club night Cinespace Tuesdays in LA (which has hosted the debut L.A.
performances from everyone from Bloc Party to The Kaiser Chiefs to Uffie). As a
DJ, Aoki has helped define the budding indie/electro movement which in spirit
and attitude has bridged the gap between the punk and electronic worlds. Aoki
puts this sound on record with his debut mix album, Pillowface & His Airplane
Chronicles. All the big players in the indie/electro movement are represented on
album: from the heavily distorted disco of France’s recent heroes Justice, to
the raved up Soulwax remix of the Klaxons, to the first ever US appearance of
Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s UK phenom (and appropriately titled), “We Are
Rockstars.” Aoki contributes with the Weird Science remixes of Peaches and Bloc
Party, and hidden gems from Goose and Yelle also make the cut. And just when you
thought this was going to be just another mix CD, the vocals kick in… With
help from some of his buddies, Aoki was able to assemble an impressive list of
guest vocals which are layered expertly over the mix. Todd Fink from the Faint,
Steve Bays from Hot Hot Heat, Mickey Avalon, Spank Rock, Kid Sister, Santogold,
Har Mar Superstar, Pase Rock, Uffie and Amanda Blank all contribute, making this
album a true family affair.

About Mike
Mix Master Mike (MMM): One of the premier scratch artists of the day, Beastie Boys DJ, the first West Coast DJ to become World Champion, and founding member of the most influential turntablist crew in history, the Invisible Skratch Piklz. In addition, MMM is all over the new Beastie Boys album To The 5 Buroughs and was featured on their previous release Hello Nasty, especially on the track “3 Emcees and 1 DJ”. After the release of Hello Nasty, MMM released his first solo production album Anti-Theft Device that has sold over 75,000 units. His other releases Eye of the Cyclops EP, his first ever mix CD Spin Cycle and The Return of th Cyclops have combined to Soundscan an additional 80,000 copies. Never known to take a break, MikeÂ’s credits also include his weekly “Spin Psycle” radio show on KROQ-FM Los Angeles, as well as working with EA Sports on SSX 1 and SSX 2 video games and on Jet Grind Radio for Sony Dreamcast.

Trentemøller
Denmark-based Anders Trentemøller made his debut in 1997, DJing the local club circuit and occasionally performing live. After a several-year-long imposed hiatus, he returned with his own productions, which quickly grabbed the ear of the then red-hot Naked Music house music label. His debut EP was well received and won praise from DJs in all electronic music genres. This led to a series of 12″ singles on such labels as Audiomatique and Tic Tac Toe before finding a home on Germany’s esteemed Poker Flat Records, where he released a series of critically acclaimed singles. His ambitious double-disc full-length The Last Resort was released in October 2006 on Poker Flat.

Snow Patrol are an alternative rock band, with members from Northern Ireland and Scotland. Formed at the University of Dundee in Dundee, Scotland in 1994, the band is now based in Glasgow. The band’s first three records, the EP “Starfighter Pilot”, and the studio albums “Songs For Polarbears” and “When It’s All Over, We Still Have To Clear Up”, were not commercially successful and were released by independent labels.
However, when the band moved to a major record label Polydor, they released their 2003 album “Final Straw” which surpassed 4x platinum sales. This was the first time the band achieved significant commercial sales, and they followed it up with international success in 2006 when “Eyes Open” sold 4.7 million copies worldwide. The songs “Run”, “Chasing Cars” and “Signal Fire” are among the band’s biggest hits.
